Site of Mattie Greens Murder, Ringgold Georgia
Mattie Green, a 32-year-old mother of six was killed when her home was bombed while she and her family were sleeping on May 19, 1960.
Her family survived.
Two daughters, including Anna Ruth Montgomery, were staying at their grandmothers house a few blocks away.
Hearing the explosion, little Anna ran to the house, and remembers seeing her familys clothes strewn outside her home.
No one was convicted on the crime, and the FBI closed the case after concluding no federal laws had been violated.
Montgomery recollects that the family knew who the murderers were.
She remembers several times her father, while reading the Sunday obituaries, told her family, another ones gone.
Recently, a woman approached Mrs. Montgomery in the grocery store and apologized, telling her she knew her father had killed Annas mother.
Mrs. Montgomery communicated to the FBI in 2007 when they reopened the case:
Dont open it if youre not going to solve it.
The FBI closed the case in 2009 due to lack of evidence.
