Alabama River, near the Tyler Goodwin Bridge, Montgomery County, Alabama
In 1957, Willie Edwards, a truck driver, was stopped by four Klansmen while on his way to work. They beat Edwards and forced him at gunpoint to jump from the Tyler Goodwin Bridge in Montgomery County, Alabama.
His decomposed body was found three months later.
In 1992, Henry Alexander confessed to the murder to his wife, Diane. Before Alexander died, he said: "I had no business hating blacks. They've never done anything to me. That man, he'll probably open the door for me." Henry Alexander was also responsible for bombing the home of Reverend Abernathy, a civil rights leader from Montgomery. The charges were dropped.
Diane Alexander met with Edwards' daughter Melinda in September 1993 to express her sorrow in person.
